Te Au o Te Moana | Special webinar series: Blue economy

We define a blue economy as consisting of activities that create economic value and contribute positively to social, cultural and ecological well-being. We have funded research projects that aim to stimulate blue economy activities across existing and emerging economic sectors in Aotearoa New Zealand.

This webinar will present a selection of these research projects. Project leaders will outline aims and objectives, progress, and pathways to impact.

These presentations will be followed by a Q&A seeded by a panel of sector catalysts, who will direct a set of pointy questions to the speakers.

Speakers
  • Nigel Bradly – Encouraging restorative economies in Aotearoa New Zealand’s marine spaces
  • Serean Adams – Making a seaweed sector in an EBM framework
  • Simon Milne – Growing marine and coastal ecotourism in New Zealand
  • John Reid and Jason Mika – Indigenising the blue economy
  • Oliver Wilson – Reducing interactions between commercial fishing gear and the seafloor
  • Matt Miller – Patangaroa hua rau: the bioactive potential of sea stars

This webinar is the fifth in a special 6-part series following the cancellation of our 2022 conference, Te Au o Te Moana – The Voice of the Ocean.

A recording of this webinar will be made available on our YouTube webinar playlist within 48 hours of the event.
