We would like to extend a warm welcome to Sharleen Gargiulo and Oliver Wade who have recently joined our Stakeholder Panel.
Sharleen is the Sustainable Fisheries Manager for the Deepwater Group, a non-profit organisation representing the interests of quota owners in deep water fisheries. She develops and manages programmes to ensure the deep water fisheries apply an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, as independently assessed by the Marine Stewardship Council. Sharleen enjoys working at the interface of conservation and development. She has a multidisciplinary background in social and physical sciences, as well as experience in local and global policy and decision-making.
Oliver is a Coastal Scientist with the Marlborough District Council. He has a background in fisheries ecology and a long-standing association with the fishing industry having spent the last twenty years working on sustainability issues in Europe and New Zealand. For the past eight years he has worked with the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council.
Oliver is replacing Megan Oliver from the Greater Wellington Regional Council on the stakeholder panel, and as co-convenor of the Coastal Special Interest Group (CSIG). We would like to thank Megan for her outstanding contribution to the stakeholder panel over the last four years and wish her all the best for the future.
About the Stakeholder Panel
An integral part of the Challenge is seeking stakeholders’ perspectives on research needs, knowledge and provides guidance and advice regarding our research priorities and implementation of our research results. The panel, chaired by Naomi Parker from the Ministry for Primary Industries, guides and aligns our research activities with the priorities of the different sectors, systems and groups that make up the wider community.
