On 25 November, we virtually attended the Offshore Future Energy Forum.
International and domestic speakers, including the Minister for Energy and Resources - Hon Megan Woods, spoke about the opportunities for developing an offshore wind industry in New Zealand. The forum was hosted by Ara Ake - New Zealand's national new energy development centre.
The Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment has committed to starting work next year on an optimal regulatory environment for offshore wind. This will help ensure New Zealand meets its target of being 100% renewable by 2030.
Our work in ecosystem-based management, cumulative impacts, spatial planning and the blue economy will be relevant to the development of offshore wind in Aotearoa New Zealand. We will work closely with the New Zealand Offshore Wind Working Group to ensure our research is available.
