Marlborough Girls’ College students receive Marine Award

Marlborough Girls’ College students won the Marine Award at the 2019 Cawthron Marlborough Environment Awards (CMEA) in late March.
As part an environmental sustainability course, the students reviewed how Marlborough Sounds are managed. They found that better protection of the environment was needed, and drafted special legislation recommending a stakeholder group be formed to protect and manage the marine area. Their proposal was supported by the Marlborough District Council and presented to the Prime Minister in 2018.
As part of the award, the students are hosting a public field day from 9.30am-12pm on 4 June at the Marlborough Research Centre in Blenheim. All welcome, to book a place contact [email protected] by 31 May.
About CMEA
The Cawthron Marlborough Environment Awards are held every two years to showcase businesses and community projects that protect and enhance the environment. They are supported by the Marlborough District Council, Cawthron Institute, Department of Conservation and local sponsors.
