Ka mau te wehi, congratulations to Jason Mika for being awarded the 2020 Richard Buchanan Teaching Excellence Award.
In addition to being a senior lecturer at Massey University's School of Management and Director of Te Au Rangahau, Jason is one of our project leaders.
He has been recognised for his commitment and quality of teaching. The award judges said they were particularly impressed with the "depth, richness, authenticity and humour of Dr Mika’s application".
Jason co-led the Whai Rawa, Whai Mana, Whai Oranga project from Phase 1, which built a foundation for a Māori marine economy. He continues this mahi in Phase 2 of the Challenge, co-leading the Indigenising the blue economy in Aotearoa project in the Blue economy theme
He is also a leader on our Vision Mātauranga Leadership Group. This group supports our research to unlock the innovation potential of Māori knowledge, resources and people.
In this video, Jason's humour and master storytelling abilities are evident as he discusses how can we best develop our marine economy, while protecting the taonga of our marine environment.
