LEARNZ Sustainable Seas Virtual Field Trip for school students
We have teamed up with LEARNZ again this year on a field trip for school students called “Sustainable seas – essential for New Zealand's health and wealth”
Participating schools will (virtually) join our scientists on boats and the shoreline to explore 3 great topics:
- Fish life cycles and ecosystem connectivity
- Estuaries, ecosystem services and mātauranga Maori
- Plastics in our oceans including a new plastic tracking digital tool
This is a great activity for students during Seaweek 2019. This is what teachers said about last year's field trip:
"It has given me a fantastic resource to use in the classroom to motivate and engage the students. It was perfect timing for Sea Week and it had the students participating and contributing, thinking, relating to others and making connections".
- Caitlin Weston from Red Beach School
"Supported our study of Tangaroa, based on Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. We all learnt so much, both the students and kaiako. Very informative newsletters made using the site easy".
- Anna Houston from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Mangere
