We’re hiring! Communications Advisor

We’re looking for an all-rounder who will thrive on a varied communications role.

With at least 2 years’ communications experience, you’ll be working with our community of researchers to tell engaging stories about their marine research in a variety of creative formats.

• You’ll be a strong writer and content creator, developing audience-focused content for web, social media and print
• You’ll have experience developing and delivering communications about complex and/or technical material to non-specialist audiences
• You’ll be comfortable managing and evaluating digital channels including our website (SilverStripe), our social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn) and our online newsletter (MailChimp)
• You’ll be willing to dive in as needed with other things like media, organising filming, events and webinars

You'll work closely with the Communications Manager, Communications Advisor - Māori, Engagement Team, and small management team, and also be responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating specific projects. 

• Full-time, fixed term to June 2024

We are a government-funded, multi-disciplinary and multi-agency research programme with a vision that Aotearoa New Zealand has healthy marine environments that provide value for every New Zealander. Our research brings together around 250 ecologists, biophysical scientists, social scientists, economists, and experts in mātauranga Māori and policy from across Aotearoa New Zealand. We are funded by MBIE and hosted by NIWA.

Sustainable Seas is one of 11 National Science Challenges that are funded by MBIE. These align and focus Aotearoa New Zealand's research on large and complex issues, bringing together scientists and experts from different organisations and across disciplines to achieve a common goal.
